I am the Secretary of HF Walking Club and four weeks ago was involved in a fall on the slopes leading up to Coire Odhar in Glen Etive, en route to Creise, whilst out walking with 13 other members of the Club. I slipped while crossing over a flat slabby seam of rock which was wet. I fell with some force, landing on my back and ended up sliding down the rock seam which went all the way down the side of the mountain, gathering speed as I progressed. |

I was unable to grab hold of anything on the way down due to the nature of the rock and the speed I was travelling at and it wasn't until my left foot made contact with an overhanging boulder that slewed me off the seam and stopped me.I knew I had done myself serious injury, although remained conscious throughout In spite of my fellow walkers covering me with fleeces from head to toe, I couldn't stop shivering through shock and the fact I was wet through. One member of our party, a doctor, had your survival bag which he reckoned was better than the one we had in our Club first aid kit. They managed to pull it over me (I'm not quite sure how) but as soon as I was inside it I felt instant heat and comfort which stopped me shivering almost immediately. We had a two hour wait for the helicopter to winch me off the mountain, so I was grateful that, in spite of the pain, I was at least warm. I was taken to the hospital at Fort William to discover I had sustained a fractured vertebra, dislocated and broken left foot, fractured sternum and ribs, a head wound requiring five stitches and multiple bruising. Our Walks Convenor emailed you asking for details of the product. In your reply you asked for a testimonial, so here it is! I look forward to receiving a free bag, but have also recommended that we replace the bags in the Club first aid kits with your bags. We also need to replace the doctor's, which was cut off me in hospital, so please send me details of prices. |
