Course Description:

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course is a 16-hour course broken into two full-day classes. PALS gives healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children.  The course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest.  The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital.

Effective Learning Environment:

• Video-based lecture with instructor-led discussions and simulations
• Students will work effectively as team members in various roles throughout the 12 core cases
• Student materials include a pre-course self-assessment to identify knowledge gaps for advance study
• Classroom format ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and instructor feedback while learning skills

Course Completion:

After successful completion of the course, American Heart Association PALS Provider Course Completion Cards will be issued and will remain valid for a period of 2 years. During the course, an AHA PALS Instructor will be leading discussions around the video based lessons and simulations. Students will participate in 12 core cases. An AHA PALS Instructor works with the students as they complete their skills practice and skills testing. Students must also complete a written exam scoring no less than 84%.
